From my perspective as a senior, I'd like to see the 2008 election be one about retirees having adequate health care, pensions we can count on and, most especially, Social Security.
Let's remember that one out of every six Americans relies on Social Security; it has been the most effective anti-poverty program ever created. But now it seems clear that McCain, a man whose record of military service to this country deserves our deepest respect and appreciation, shares the viewpoint of President Bush - that Social Security is just another commodity that can be sold off to their friends on Wall Street.
Apparently, in the Bush/McCain world, seniors' risk would be a Wall Street reward. Fancying himself as something of a "maverick," John McCain is willing to gamble away our Social Security on the stock market. Rocky Mountain News |
